If you have been volunteering at the rummage sale forever, still please read this first part anyway.
April 19 is sorting Sunday. If at all possible, please bring in your donations sorted and labeled by department. Please note that Monday is the marathon so the church will be hard to access during the race.
Please come to the spaghetti dinner on Wednesday, April 22, at 6. There will be a sign up so we have a general idea of numbers. If you are free around 5:30, help would be appreciated with set up for the dinner.
On the day of the sale please park off site, if possible, to allow parking for shoppers.
If you are not signed up to help, we would love to have your help at any time and especially on the day of the sale. We also really could use help at 1 pm when the sale is over for the cleanup.
Rummage neophytes should also read the following information:
The Rummage Sale is more than a major fundraiser for our church: it benefits both our local community and the environment by offering big savings to our neighbors and reducing consumption of new goods. If you are new to the congregation, working on the sale is a wonderful way to get to know people in a fun relaxed setting.
The sale is a huge project, but many hands make light work, and every bit of help is appreciated. One of the added benefits of volunteering is getting to know each other better, and we sincerely hope you’ll join us.
On Sunday, April 19, wear work clothes to church. We will have a quick lunch then begin bringing in donations, sorting them to departments and organizing the sale departments. Sunday is a great day to bring in donations, but they are welcome any time before noon on Thursday. If you have donations you can’t store until rummage week, please contact a member of the rummage committee.
It is very helpful if you can SORT AND LABEL your donations according to the categories below:
• Books (and puzzles, games and DVDs)
• Linens (please note size of any bedding: king, queen, etc.)
• Home furnishings (and gardening, home repair electronics, large
artwork); please no large furniture
• Clothing (men’s and women’s--please separate)
• Kitchenware and china
• Treasures (antiques and more valuable items)
• Notions (white elephants, office and craft supplies and totally miscellaneous items)
Unfortunately, some things don’t sell; textbooks, damaged or mildewed clothing or books, and or non-working electronics. If you have a question about a potential donation, please check with a member of the Rummage Committee.
From Tuesday April 21 to Friday April 24, workers will be at the church everyday organizing departments. We are generally around from 9 am until 4 or 5, but some departments run later. Check with your department chair or a member of the Rummage Committee before coming in to donate or work to make sure someone will be there. Department chairs will be given a door code.
Please pick up a red apron in parish hall to wear while in the church during Rummage Week so daycare staff will know why you are there. When you come into work in a department, please come by sorting in the vestibule and carry up any sorted donations to your department or a department nearby.
Donations are welcomed until 12 noon on Thursday April 23.
Worker shopping is at double price until Wednesday at 6, when items can be bought at the regular price. Please wait for items to be individually priced in departments without standardized prices such as Treasures and Home Furnishings. Please use a shopping cardstock to mark your purchases and you can pay any member of the Rummage Committee.
Wednesday April 22nd at 6 pm we will be having our Spaghetti Dinner. Please sign up to give us a tentative count but last-minute attendees are welcome. This is a thank you to our volunteers and a chance to relax and socialize.
Saturday April 25: We need all the help we can get! We arrive at the church around 8:30am and the sale starts at 9:00 and runs until 1 pm. Please TRY TO PARK OFFSITE to leave space for shoppers.
At 1:00 pm we box up unsold items and carry them out to be picked up by charity trucks. We also need help to breakdown and store racks and tables.
We will have lunch available during the sale.
This is a major fundraiser for the church and an excellent way to get to know people in a fun, relaxed setting. Please join us for as much time as you can manage.
