The goal of the Greater Boston Food Bank is to distribute enough food to provide three meals a day to every food insecure individual in Eastern Massachusetts, and there are a lot of them. One in three households reports not having enough money to buy food each month, with winter being particularly hard on seniors who struggle to heat their homes, purchase medications, and still buy the groceries they need to stay healthy.
The Food Bank directly distributes food to soup kitchens, senior centers, and food pantries. Their highly efficient model for securing and distributing food makes it possible for them to provide two healthy meals for every $3 donated. That is an impressive return on the dollars we at UU Wellesley Hills contribute
